Position Summary
White Pass Railroad is seeking a Car Shop Manager to manage and direct inspection, repair, and capital planning for its fleet of 85 passenger cars and assorted rolling stock. WPY sustains a high tempo of operations from May through September moving nearly 700,000 passengers with 2,000 train starts with a goal of 100% car availability.
The car department consists of ten inspectors, carpenters, painters, and apprentices. The Car Manager is expected to be forward leaning and proactive especially concerning failure root cause analysis and corrective action. The Car Manager must have technical command of inspection and repair of all underframe components and running gear (e.g. ABDX valves, single car tests, wheels, bearings, draft gear, etc).
WPY is a civil engineering landmark running through mountain territory in Alaska, British Columbia, and Yukon Territory with a record of innovation and strong investment in safety and modernization all in keeping with being one of the world’s largest shore excursions.
WPY is regulated by both USA and Canada. Competitive package and benefits including Railroad Retirement Board service credits. Position based in Skagway, Alaska, USA, with the ability to work remotely three months of the year.
