FREE Salsa Lessons – 8:00pm
Salsa lessons taught by Heather Haugland and Antonio Diaz offer the perfect complement to any Salsa Borealis performance. They incorporate several rhythms into the class: salsa, cha cha, and merengue. Lessons are designed to get even the most rhythmically-challenged on their feet we focus on having fun and learning to move with the rhythm, rather than on formal dance steps.
Antonio and Heather have been teaching salsa in Juneau and around Southeast for over three years. Prior to that, Antonio taught and performed in Seattle for several years and Heather received her Latin dance training in Cuba.
9:00pm – Live Music from Juneau’s own “Salsa Borealis”
SALSA BOREALIS Salsa Borealis has been heating up the dance floors in Juneau for nearly ten years. They are a 7-piece band that plays a wide variety of Latin rythyms, including salsa, cha cha, merengue and samba. Their repertoire represents both traditional and contemporary styles from Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico and even West Africa. The result is a rythymically infectious sound ranging from the cool, jazzy Bossa Novas of Brazil, classic 1950¹s Big-Band Mambos from Cuba, to the sizzling Salsas of today¹s popular Latin dance scene.
