SKAGWAY, AK — Carrying on a century old tradition, White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) has again produced a stunning 24″ X 36″ wall calendar for 2011.
For the feature image, WP&YR again commissioned renowned railway artist J. Craig Thorpe, who created “SKAGWAY SUMMER MORNING – Milepost 0 — Gateway to the Yukon”.
Summit Shuffle
At an elevation of nearly 3,000 feet, amidst the sub-alpine tundra, the White Pass Summit is the setting for the “Summit Shuffle.” The Maintenance of Way crew looks on as Steam Engine No. 69 and Diesel Locomotive No. 90 engage in a series of carefully orchestrated movements to reposition the trains for their descent to Skagway.
